Meet brad douglas

Brad is an executive business and leadership coach, as well as a partner in PLX Corp, an executive management consulting firm based in the Kansas City region.  He coaches and consults for CEOs, Directors of Boards, and senior management leaders that want to strengthen their leadership and business skills.

Brad is a former CEO and a licensed attorney with a unique blend of public, non-profit, and corporate executive leadership experience.  Areas of expertise include leadership, strategy, board governance, public affairs, government relations, business development, community relations and communications. He is a proven leader and well-versed in leading teams, growing organizations and building relationships. 

Prior to becoming a coach and consultant to business leaders, Brad served as the President/CEO of Heartland Credit Union Association (HCUA), a position he held for more than six years while leading that organization’s growth and its support of more than 180 credit unions across Kansas and Missouri.

Brad began his career in Washington, D.C. after graduating law school, where he held roles as a lobbyist with trade associations, as a U.S. Senate staffer on Capitol Hill, and as the Director of the State of Missouri Office for Governor of Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as Deputy Administrator of Congressional and Legislative Affairs and was promoted to lead all Field Operations across the country with responsibility for more than 2,500 employees.

Brad came back to his home in Kansas City when he was appointed by the President to be the Midwest Regional Administrator for the White House Office of Small Business Advocacy and was asked to also oversee the SBA’s regional offices in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.  

He went on to create and lead Public Affairs in the corporate sector at Cerner Corporation in Kansas City before later moving to the non-profit sector as the Senior Vice President of Business Development for the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. He later headed up sales for more than eight years at Alliance Benefit Group of Kansas City as Vice President of Business Development before being selected as the President and CEO of HCUA.  

Brad has served, as well as Chaired, numerous boards including his role as Director and Chairman of Community/America Credit Union in Kansas City and Chairman of ArtsKC, Kansas City’s Regional Arts Council. 

He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and has a Bachelor’s Degree from William Jewell College, Summa Cum Laude, in Piano Performance and Communications. Brad has been married for 33 years to his wife Barbara and they have three grown children.
